I worked for Human Solutions as part of their LearnLinks program for half a year. Specifically I worked as a homework club coordinator for the students of the families served by Human Solutions. Human Solutions works with and helps families with various services such as housing, housing assistance, food and locating work. Many families have immigrated from another country or are living in a low socioeconomic bracket. The families are provided housing assistance in apartment complexes owned and run by human solutions. My job was to coordinate after school homework clubs for the students of those families. I held two hour homework clubs per week where students were able to come to receive academic support with myself or one of the volunteers available to help. Students also participated in other enrichment activities I planned during that time which would focus on a new learning target or an activity aimed at building social skills. In addition to the regular homework club sessions I also organized and ran monthly community nights that hosted all students and families to get food and participate in community building activities. I also organized monthly field trips for the students. A typical field trip would be educationally enriching in nature or aimed to provide some physical activity. In addition to working with the students during the school year, I also ran a summer session to help students retain academic progress through the summer.
