Part of our graduate school program included building a comprehensive guidance counseling program. With fellow
colleagues I helped develop this program based on the data of David Douglas High School. As part of our program we utilized a school-wide needs survey administered to students, teachers and parents and created a school bulletin to inform all stakeholders of current standings and program progress. We created interventions to address needs including student connection and investment in the school community and parent and student post-secondary preparedness. We created the PEACE program to support the development of student critical decision making skills. Our full project can be found in the link to the left. |

At Centennial High School I worked with the counselors to develop goals for the year
and implement effective strategies for accomplishing those goals. Our goals surrounded freshman success rates, specifically that all freshman would be on track to graduate by the end of their first year. I helped to meet this goal by forming a freshman student group focused on identifying student short term and long term goals and developing plans for success. Our professional learning team goals can be found via the link to the left. |
(B) Plans and presents school-counseling-related educational programs for use with parents and teachers such as: parent education programs, materials used in classroom guidance, and advisor and advisee programs for teachers.
A significant aspect of our comprehensive guidance program project included presenting our
school to a panel of peers and other professional working in the counseling field. My group and I shared our school wide needs assessment, our findings from the current school data, our action plans to address needs and the results of our interventions. We shared our success and what we would change for future interventions. Our presentation can be found in the link to the left. |

For our Parents, Families and Communities class, I worked with a group of my colleagues to
develop a school based community initiative that involved and utilized all stakeholders in building and strengthening the school community. We created the PAPA project: Parents Advocating the the Performing Arts. In our plan, counselors would work with parents and community resources to bring music into the school culture where too often music programs are being cut. Music would be incorporated into the regular classroom instruction and extracurricular music programs would be available for students to join. Instruments would be provided through generous donations from the community. We presented our plan to our colleagues and shared how this plan could be implemented in the schools they work at. Our presentation can be found via the link to the left. |
