(A) Demonstrates the ability to apply and adhere to ethical and legal standards in school counseling; and
As an assignment for my Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling course, I
created my professional disclosure statement and initial informed consent form that is ready made to be used with the students I work with. |
I created and utilized this informed consent form for my action research
project as part of my 400 hour internship experience at Centennial High School. I identified a need for academic and social support for newly enrolled freshman students and organized a student group to help foster peer connection and academic support. |
Through my various professional and educational experiences, I have
come across situations which presented me with ethical and legal decisions. The link to the left connects to an entry from my reflection log regarding such decisions. |
(B) Demonstrates the ability to articulate, model, and advocate for an appropriate school counselor identity and program.
In addition to advocating for the school counseling profession
with fellow professional educators who may be less informed about what my role is as a counselor, it is important to collaborate with other counselors to agree upon common standards for our profession and work to advocate for our profession as a whole. In this effort I have been a member of the American School Counselors Association, the Oregon School Counselors Association and the Chi Sigma Iota counselor honors society. |

Part of our graduate school program included building a comprehensive guidance counseling program. With fellow
colleagues I helped develop this program based on the data of David Douglas High School. We created the PEACE program to support the development of student critical decision making skills. As part of our program we utilized a school-wide needs survey administered to students, teachers and parents and created a school bulletin to inform all stakeholders of current standings and program progress. |
In order to appropriately advocate for the
school counseling profession it is important to that all stakeholders agree on a common set of standards guiding our professional identity. As a cohort of Portland State University's , my classmates and I made a video discussing why we chose to be educated and trained in a CACREP accredited program. We entered our video in CACREP's competition for advocacy week and placed second nationally. |
