After receiving my bachelors degree I decided to go to Japan to teach English. I worked as anEnglish teacher for Orden Bunka Center (OBC), a small private English conversation school in Tsu City Japan. I really loved my time teaching English and being able to live in such an amazing country with great people. As an English teacher I prepared and taught weekly English lessons for elementary, junior high and senior high aged students. I was also active in preparing and leading school wide activities focused on teaching of American culture. I did a lot of work in promoting inter-cultural connection by organizing and managing pen pal project and teaching American culture and customs. One of my favorite aspects of my work there included talking with my students to learn about what motivates them to learn English and what they hope to do with their English skill. I leaned that they wanted to travel abroad and even study abroad at later on. It was in that work that I decided I wanted to be a school counselor and help students find their path and goals in life. I take so much of the work I did in Japan with me today. I always try to be aware of other people's points of view and am always striving to see things from another perspective to gain a greater and more full perspective of any situation.
